In most cases, the reviews are necessarily limited to those that were available to us ahead of publication. I had read so many glowing reviews of this book so I was looking forward to reading it. This unreliable narrator proves incredibly three-dimensional. Well that is the question…. But not everything is quite as it seems, as we are to find out. Found it hard to understand the pattern and flow of the story. Yes it is based in South Korea, in a newly-built city called Gundo, in the vicinity of Seoul. Frantic, though trying to cover up what he may have done, Yu-jin struggles to come to terms with what has happened. It was not a difficult read to get through, but it was mediocre at best. But I would still recommend this one for the original and intense storytelling that you will make you squirm, yet still keep you reading and reading.

A person who commits a random, sudden, brutal murder of an innocent woman is a psychopath in every case and this book should have been 90% shorter because there was no suspense after that.

June 5th 2018 The author used a random, sudden, brutal murder of an innocent woman as a plot point, necessary to provide a a character's motive, but then the reader was expected to remain suspenseful about IF the murderer was a psychopath or not. After a simple google search, I could only come up with two-three thriller books, with this one being recently released. While well written from a first person perspective there is nothing particularly clever or thrilling about the plot.

However, I feel like her novel stood completely on its own as a twisted, dark tale that wasn't reminiscent of King's work in my opinion, but a great example of a unique author with an individual, quirky style.
